Review: Ever the Hunted

Ever the Hunted Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: This is the second time I have read this title and I have to tell you that the only thing I remembered about it was Enat that was it. I didn't remember anything or anyone else at all. I really really wished what happened to her hadn't and I would love a prequel story about her. I am just saying that she is totally awesome and I love her!

So this one I thought it felt a lot lighter this time around than what I remember from the first time that I read it. It didn't feel so thick or heavy at all. Although death was around the corner for the main characters I really felt like it just didn't seem as bad as it could have been. I don't know it felt like killing light I guess you could say or peril light. I don't know.

I did like how the story unfolded it was very quick. I read this one at 74.6 pages an hour and got it done in just over 5 hours. So I would say that was pretty fast. It never stagnated and I liked that the two characters already had a relationship so you didn't have to worry about that insta love that this one would have had to have if they didn't already know each other. So I think that the author dodged a giant bullet with that one.

The ending was also very nice that although there was one thing left undone even if this book wouldn't have had a sequel it wouldn't have really needed it and it stands alone on its own. Although I think if that would have been the case a good epilogue would have been needed to round out the one thing that wasn't finished.

All in all, I think this would be a great title for someone who is just getting started with fantasy books and young adult. Because its light, quick, and really gives you a very simple world view for the world building as well as the magic that they use.

Note: SO after reading this one I was talking to a friend that had already read book two. And I am like ok so I think this, this, and this happens and she was like YES YES that is EXACTLY what happens. So now I am reading this second book with already knowing what happens because I guessed it and now I am all. Crying up I am so sad right now.

Review: Kingdom of Ash

Kingdom of Ash Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: 4,200 pages is how long this series is that I have just finished. And no words could ever tell you how much this series has ripped out my heart only to put it back together. This has been one of the most amazing journeys that I have ever taken in a series and it is not one that I will soon forget.

One thing that I didn't like is that although we do get an epilogue set a few months past the last chapter I would have liked to have something that was years in the future. So much of this story was left open so I really hope that when the paperback comes out that we get another story set in this world as I would like to know what everyone is up to by that time.

This last book in this amazing series is one to bring you a lot of heartbreak. I know that through most of it I was either shouting out with YES or crying my eyes out both happy and sad tears. I will say to make sure to have tissues on hand and a lot of water. Even after finishing this story I couldn't pick a fav. character or couple as they have all found a special place in my heart. And I will think of them from time to time. I would love to revisit this series a few years from now when their story starts to grow faint in my mind. So I can once again fall in love with each of them.

I really don't know what else to say about this story other than it wowed me and I kind of wished that I could have been there to help each and everyone one of those characters. As a spirit on the wind leading them in their fight. I will leave you with this though as my final thoughts on this story.

Although Aelin might be a fictional character as far as we know. She is one that showed us to never give up. To NEVER YIELD and to Fight for a better world. So Aelin I am here with you and lets hope for a better tomorrow.

Review: Tower of Dawn

Tower of Dawn Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: I really thought this was going to be the first book in this series that was not going to get five starts. This one started out a lot slower than I would have liked. It was very wordy and had a lot of descriptions that I thought just weren't needed. But by the end chapters, I was dying. I could not put it down and I was very sad that it was over. So much stuff happens in this title that you really do have to read it and it is not a novella like a lot of people say. It is integral to the story at large and is not a title you can skip or you will miss out on a lot of what happens. This one is full of twists and turns and is really an edge of your seat thriller at least once you get past those few starter chapters.

Love, Life, and Death all rage in this heart-pounding story with one of the most beloved side characters that I could just not put down!

Empire of Storms Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: I really wonder if any of these titles won't make me cry. This book shocked and delighted me to no end. There were a lot of times where I would scream out either to say NO or YES!! Where the last book left me with a feeling of so much hope. This one left me feeling very scared of how it was all going to end. We get revolations on what has to happend for these people to save the world and its so much worse than I could ever have imagined.

Review: Queen of Shadows

Queen of Shadows Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: I have no idea how I am going to review this title. This was beyond amazing and I could not put it down. To start I was thinking that this was going to be the first book in this series to only be 3 or 4 stars but that all turned around once the story got going. In this, we find old friends, new enemies, and so so much hope! Which is what I really have to say that this book has ended with. It has filled me with the message that no matter how bad things get or how dark our situation gets you should always have hope. Let it be your guiding light in the darkness.

The world that has been fully formed before this book even started and the story is in full swing. We do have some very slow parts in the start of this one which personally I think could have been cut down. As although it does get the story going it isn't all that meaningful to the story at large.

The other thing I want to say about this one is the sexual tension that it has. I mean I still can not believe that this is a young adult novel when those bits are going on. I understand that this is a high young adult but still. But I love the writing and the way the author dealt with it.

I really do not know what else to say for this one other than I know there are three books left but I am just not ready for it to be all over. I haven't finished a series since the House of Night one that I did about a year ago and even that one has a new spin-off series. So I wasn't really saying goodbye. I finished this one with tears in my eyes and laughter in my heart.

Review: Heir of Fire

Heir of Fire Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

My Review: This book took me a little longer to finish but I finally did it and it was totally worth the journey it took to get to the end. I could not put this one down and every chance I could get I picked it back up to read a little more. This story is so much more than just a story. Its where the tide turns for all of the characters and you read this one at the edge of your seat. It is full of twists, some gore, and depth and as I reached the end was why this is an epic fantasy!! I really loved how we got more than one story in this title. The introduction of Manon Blackbeak was brilliant and exciting and gave this book the edge to make it amazing.

Review: Before I Let Go

Before I Let Go Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

My Review: This is another one from my TBR Giveaway pile and well this one is another one that just did not work out at all. The back and forth in time felt out of place for this one. It is one thing that sometimes works for a story and well sometimes it doesnt. And for me it just didn't. I did like how the story opened though.

Allegedly Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

My Review: This was one of the books that has been laying around for a while now. It was the winner of one of this months TBR Giveaways.

I was very excited to read this one but for me it just fell short to what I was expecting. I read another book about a little girl that was supposed to be well psycho and a killer and where that one drew you in with the writing and story. This one left me pretty bored.

Review: The Scythian Trials

The Scythian Trials The Scythian Trials by Elizabeth Isaacs
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My Review: I have to say that this publisher is finding some amazing stories to publish and bring us! And I am so happy to be reading them! This one is another great story that I could not put down. This story is full of Amazonians but set in the modern age. The society was something fresh that I haven't read about before and the setting was so breathtaking. The story had a great flow and I am so excited that I have a print copy of this one. I really love how the women take the front stage of the story and the men have to win them over. This was such a thrilling and suspenseful story!

Review: The Gilded Wolves

The Gilded Wolves The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

My Review: I really wanted to love this one but I have to say that it was very confusing and at times very boring. I loved the characters but the way it was written I found myself tuning out a lot of the explanations that are given. It rambled on a lot about history and puzzles and that really made this one not very enjoyable. I have heard others say that this is very close to Six of Crows and I really hope that is not true as I love that author's stories and have yet to read those.

In the end this one was just to bogged down by the elements of the story to be really great. I also thought that the magical system needed to be way simpler explained.

Review: 29 Dates

29 Dates 29 Dates by Melissa de la Cruz
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: This book was so adorable. I thought that the middle snippets of her dates were going to take away from the story at large but after a few chapters, I was actually looking forward to reading how each one went. This book was unlike anything I have ever read and it felt very diverse with the characters. I loved learning more about Korean Culture (even though the author notes that she took liberties with the matchmaking dates) and I really hope that De La Cruz does another story set in another culture soon. I loved all of the characters and the pace of this story.

The one thing that I wish would have been really touched on in this story was the fact that Jisu's parents were very hard on her. It would have been nice for her to sit down with them to have a real talk about how they were pressuring her to not only to do her best but to surpass that. Kids these days are under so much stress during school, especially being a senior. It would be better for parents to support their children vs. stressing them out more. Although Jisu does talk to her mom about the issue its never really talked about at large and is never really resolved.

In the end, I think was a very cute and at times funny story. I am really glad that I got the chance to read it and I could see this one being a great summer read. To grab a copy and layout at the beach and get a tan while watching the waves and reading.

Review: The Final Six

The Final Six The Final Six by Alexandra Monir
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: This one was a slightly slower story but it worked out very well. I really loved how this one made me think of a prequel to a movie that was out forever ago called Water World. Because this is set in our world but it been devastated by storms, flooding, and earthquakes. The world is pretty much almost fully covered in water and the government and NASA are trying to find a way to send 6 teens to one of the moons of Jupiter called Europa.

I really enjoyed how this one started out and the dual POV. At first, I thought I was going to hate it but it really worked out in the end. So don't worry you do NOT have 6 POVS just 2. I was kind of freaking out when I saw that it has different POVs and went and checked to see how many there were.

So the story of this one has us going through the selection, training, and the final selection for the final six. Along the way there were some major twists and turns that I didn't totally see coming. One twist dealing with this story and this injection the kids were given had me thinking of this movie on Netflix where adults were given an injection so they could survive on another planet but it started changing them into a being or creature that could survive and it took away their humanity altogether. But don't worry that was so not a turn off for this book. That movie although kind of weird was really good.

The pacing of this was really good. I never felt bored and I wanted to keep reading I really hope that we get a book two. I tweeted to the author but she never said if there was going to be a book two. Why are authors so evil sometimes?

We get another twist during the end of this book and it really sets up a book two. I will be nothing but tears if we do not get a book two for this!! Well, I guess there will be a book two Goodreads has updated to add the series so YAY!!

One other thing about this book that I am totally freaking out about is that Sony has picked it up to turn it into a movie!! So fingers crossed they don't kill it.

Review: My Sister Rosa

My Sister Rosa My Sister Rosa by Justine Larbalestier
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: OMG this book was creepy good and I really wished that the author would release another one and make this a series. This one is so not for you if you don't like darker stories. It follows 17-year-old Che and his little sister Rosa who is 10 and I have to say that Rosa freaks me out to no end. This one I had picked up at the library bookstore for $2 bucks and it sat around forever. But I am so glad that I finally got the chance to read it.

So Rosa is a 10-year-old little girl who is VERY smart she can play chess, understand math that I SO cant do. And is so twisted and creepy that I am kind of surprised that I didn't have nightmares. She doesn't have empathy for anyone. She doesn't care who she hurts as long as she gets what she wants.

As for the main character Che, he is a normal 17-year-old boy that learns some very scary things during this story. He knows his little sister is a psychopath and records her when they talk about how she feels. I really have to say that I think the author turned into being a 17-year-old boy and did a fabulous job with the teens in this story.

The rundown of the story itself I think the author did a stellar job with the topic of a child being a psychopath. Rosa was so freaking creepy and I think this would make one killer movie! The pace of the book was perfect and I don't say that too much. It flowed very well while being fast enough to keep it interesting but slow enough to really let the story unfold and build with tension. I kept thinking of all the bad things Rosa could do and was so shocked as each one happened. I fully understand how parents don't want to think of their kids as being crazy but this family really needed a wake-up call. I felt so bad for Sally but really I think this family was very weird. As the kids called their parents by their first names instead of mom and dad. It made their family dynamics really feel off. Like the kids were separated from their parents. I mean for me I love being called mom and I wouldn't change that for anything.

While writing up this review I realized that the cast of characters in this book other than Che, David, and one other parent and an ex-boyfriend that shows up. The rest of the cast is all female. I think that really made this story even better. I mean I didn't really focus on everyone's gender. We have one character that doesn't prescribe to one at all, a few girls that are gay, and then Che and his family. I think there were a few guys at the gym that Che goes to but that's about it. The main cast was all girls.

Another thing this story did was have a character that was a boxer but also very religious. Sojourner was a full on Christian but she didn't hate on people. She was the daughter of two women (mom and momma) and I really kind of loved her. I do think that she should have been more understanding with the situation but in the end, I think she did what she thought was right to keep her and her family safe.

This book was so full of diversity that it just made it so much better!! I could not put it down and again I really need a book two to this one. We could watch Rosa grow up and hopefully be put in a mental hospital or something.

The twist at the end of this one was out of this world. It shocked and horrified me. There are two major twists by the end of this one and man I did NOT see those coming at all. And yes one made me cry.

Some other tidbits about the book:
*I really liked how the book was split up into the list that Che made.
*I think that it should have been touched on how obsessed Che was with Rosa. I think this family needed a major wake up call. That Che is not Rosa's parent and he needs to just be able to be a kid. Or ya know to get out of that house.
*At the end of this one its mentioned (view spoiler)

Review: Four Dead Queens

Four Dead Queens Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

My Review: This one was ok for me but it could have been so much better. I really loved the main story of the book but my issues came when you were tossed into the POVs of the queens leading up to their deaths. It really made the story feel choppy for me. I wished I could have loved it but it just wasn't working. I really wished that the author (whom I loved her other books) would have summed up all the queens in the first few chapters then go on with the main story.

I really thought that the romance wasn't needed. It felt flat and rushed. I really loved Keralie but with being tossed back into the POVs of the queens I never really felt like we got the who perspective of her and Varin.

I think this one with the great world building will appeal to some but it really, in the end, felt like it had taken a lot of things from other young adult novels than just kind of twisted them just a little.
