Review: Mortal Engines

Mortal Engines Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

My Review: I really wanted to love this one after watching the movie but for me this one although it is stated to be a young adult. Felt more like middle grade and well it just didn't click with me at all. I thought it was fairly boring and I just could not read it.

Review: The Assassin's Blade

The Assassin's Blade The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: WOW JUST WOW!! I am not one that normally enjoyed novellas but this one hit it out of the park! I love how each one continues off of the other and this is really a full-fledged novel. I enjoyed learning more about Celaena with her being just 16/17 years old. As well as the story leading up to the first book which is what this is really about. You lean so much about the character and her strengths and what she has been through as well as why she spent that year in the Salt Mines. This set of novellas is something you really should read before the first book in the series.

I hadn't read the orginal story to Throne of Glass in sometime so I totally forgot how the first book started. So reading this one I was worried I was going to leave behind a lot of the connections but I didn't at all.

If you are going to read this series now that all the books are out I would start right here first. Because these novellas give you information that you will need before starting book one as well as make you fall in love with Celaena.

I will say one thing though parts of these novellas really kind of made me want to slap Celaena up side the head. A lot of time she was way more focused on her looks than what was going on and it made her sound very shallow and vain. I am interested to see how that year in the Salt Mines does for her ego since it's been a very long while since I last read it.

Although these are novellas it really one full story that I could not put down. I would totally recommend this to those who are fans of this series.

Review: Throne of Glass

Throne of Glass Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: When it started this book I had really forgotten pretty much everything that had happened during the story. It has been some time since I read it and I was overjoyed to be able to read it again. I have to say that this book is one killer novel that I could not put down. I loved all of the characters and just how much Celaena has grown since the events in the novella. She has spent one full year in the salt mines of Endovier and is now on the path of the goddess I guess you could say. The author does so much to bring these books to life as you read from amazing lines to beautiful descriptions. But it isn't over done which makes this story even better. I fell in love with Westfall the Captian of the Guard, the Crown Prince Dorian, and Celaena all over again!

I will say that if you haven't read the first book I would say to read that one first and then go back and read this one. Because, although this gives you an introduction to the world the first book gives you way more.

Although these are novellas it really one full story that I could not put down. I would totally recommend this to those who are fans of this series.

Review: One Foot in the Grave

One Foot in the Grave One Foot in the Grave by C.C. Hunter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: This is one more story from CC Hunter that I just could not put down. I will say that I wished that the ending would have been a little longer as it felt like the bad guy was caught a little soon and a little too easily. Other than that the ending was a cliffhanger that I already guessed.

The rest of the story was spot on and each chapter took us one step closer to Riley figuring out what is going on. I do hope that during this series we find out why she can see the dead since its only been a year since she started seeing them.

I really enjoyed how this one started as well as Riley just being your normal teenager. She has issues with her dad (who I have to say is actually there for the most part), issues with kids at school and then, of course, she can see the dead. But through it all, she is pretty strong. I have to say that she reminds me of Melinda from that old TV show called Ghost Whisper. She deals with the dead on her own terms and speaks with them and helps them.

The romance in this one although there is pretty light compared to other stories. It worked very well and that twist at the end with it felt right as well. At the time that I am writing this, I have already read book two and I will prepare you the ending of that one dealing with this romance is even worse!!

If you are looking for a new paranormal with a little danger and a little romance check this out! But make sure to have book two on hand!

Review: This Cruel Design

This Cruel Design This Cruel Design by Emily Suvada
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: I am currently dying right now!! This sequel to This Mortal Coil has officially killed me. So I am going to start at the end first because it was it a killer. The ending of this one wasn't exactly predictable but I did kind of see the turn that it was going to take and I was screaming at it NOOOOOOOOO!!! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!! But the author did and I am now broken.

This one was a punch to the gut. This one had it all action, suspense, twists, and one killer cliffhanger. OMG guys make sure you are prepared for this book when you read it. Because I so was not prepared for this by the last page. The characters were all there and we finally get to meet another one that has been with us from the start. This one hit it so out of the park with the twists and story that I just could not put it down.

Cat has come so far and I really hope that this cliffhanger at the end gets fixed before the end of the series. Because it killed me what this story did to her and the other characters.

The science was great and still fully engrossed in the story. I did feel a little more lost with all the tech in this one and well I didn't understand most of it. But it didn't take away from the story at all and really made it speed on faster.

I think with everything that happened in this book that I have no clue where the author is going to take us in book three. Who knows she might just blow everyone up for all I know. I wouldn't put it past her at this point.
