Review: After the Fire by Will Hill

After the Fire After the Fire by Will Hill
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The things I've seen are burned into me, like scars that refuse to fade.

Before, she lived inside the fence.

Before, she was never allowed to leave the property, never allowed to talk to Outsiders, never allowed to speak her mind.

Because Father John controlled everything—and Father John liked rules.

Disobeying Father John came with terrible consequences.

But there are lies behind Father John's words.

Outside, there are different truths.

Then came the fire.

Review: Lost Arrow: Book I of The Kalelah Series by Marshall Ross

Lost Arrow: Book I of The Kalelah Series Lost Arrow: Book I of The Kalelah Series by Marshall Ross
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Some things are best left undiscovered.
All our ideas about humanity’s origins get twisted in this colonization story crafted will all the intrigue and layers of a nail-biting thriller. If you love Michael Crichton and Dan Brown, start this heart-pounding series.
Geologist Sarah Long makes the discovery of a lifetime. A strange ship buried in the seafloor of the Pacific Ocean. It’s impossibly big. Extremely old. And most definitely not from this planet. But neither is it alien. Or dead.
At the same time, the ship makes its own jaw-dropping discovery, and Captain Jan Argen must decide between his duty to the ship’s mission and a shocking, new reality he never expected.
Moving between characters anchored in contemporary, American life and the crew of the mysterious starship, The Kalelah Series is a fast-moving countdown toward a battle between people who have everything in common, except what they believe.
Space opera, first-contact and alien invasion fans get it all.
Joey Berlin, Executive Producer of The Critics' Choice Awards says, “Wickedly Original. Lost Arrow hits the sci-fi bullseye. I can’t wait to see the movie.”
Other books in The Kalelah Series:
Fallen Arrow, Book II of The Kalelah Series
Jagged Arrow, Book III of The Kalelah Series

Review: Love à la Mode

Love à la Mode Love à la Mode by Stephanie Kate Strohm
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My Review: This book was so cute I will say that parts of this one were a little on the slow side. But all in all, this was a very cute book that would be great to read if you're looking for something light to enjoy. This one takes us to Paris and a cooking school for teens, man this is a book you do not want to be hungry I made that mistake and ugh I am so mad that I didn't have something sweet and savory laying around. Most of the story was well paced but there were some parts that I did not enjoy because it seemed that the characters were just kind of rambling and the story wasn't going anywhere.

The characters were adorable as well as the story. I really didn't connect with anyone but that was totally ok with this one. This one ended with a nice little tie up with a bow to match. Its so not something with a lot of depth but if you are looking for something light and with food and well PARIS check this one out.

Do I Recommend this book? Yes, this was a very cute light read!

Review: When We Caught Fire

When We Caught Fire When We Caught Fire by Anna Godbersen
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

My Review: I LOVE Historical Fiction but this one I did not like at all. I swear all this week it has been books that I have hated. I really hope that something this week I will fully fall in love with. This one I am sad to say was just the story itself. I really loved the characters but the way the story went it was just boring. This one did a love triangle for no real reason and part way through the book if you are paying attention you will get told the ending which was a real let down.

Do I Recommend this book? No slow and boring

Review: A Spark of White Fire

A Spark of White Fire A Spark of White Fire by Sangu Mandanna
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

My Review: This is another one for me that I just didn't like. This one was the writing and the story both of which felt forced and just not for me. The plot felt very choppy as well. I did not like any of the characters and I just had to put it down.

Review: Give the Dark My Love

Give the Dark My Love Give the Dark My Love by Beth Revis
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

My Review: I really wanted to love this one the first chapters in Nedra's POV were great but when we switched to Grey's the story fell apart for me. His chapters were so boring and really kind of killed this story.

I really loved the idea of Necromancy as not many stories deal with this topic. So that was a fresh new story that I really wished that I would have loved. For me I just wish that this wouldn't have been in dual POV.

The other thing about this one that made it a little unenjoyable was the writing style in general. I have tried one other book from this author and really didn't care for it.

The characters in this one were pretty good other than Grey. I loved Nedra and her situation but Grey just didn't work out for me.

Do I Recommend this book? Not really sorry guys

Review: The Hazel Wood

The Hazel Wood The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

This was a hot mess of a book. I got to around 100 pages and had to let it go and DNFed it. It was so boring and just didn't make any sense on why it was even called The Hazel Wood since you don't really spend a lot of time there. I am so sad that this book just did not work for me at all since I have three copies of it form different places.

Review: A Blade So Black

A Blade So Black A Blade So Black by L.L. McKinney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First, off I thought I would add a note here: During the time that I was creating this post I found out that this author said some things online about racism etc. Well, this review will be my thoughts on the book itself. I do not let others thoughts stop me from reading books.

My Review: I have to tell you that this book was freaking amazing. This book was one hell of a story!! It had a great new story for Alice and this really made me feel like the child of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Clary from Shadowhunters. In this one, Alice is killing Nightmares and OMG IS IT GOOD!!

It was very funny and so action packed! I loved what the author did with the story of Alice and I really hope that we get a book two. I did think it was weird that somewhere in the story we get to see the original Alice but no one said anything about it being weird that they both had the same name. Especially since the name Alice is well pretty old. (My grandmother's name was Alice and she was born in the 1920's).

I really loved Alice, she was headstrong, could kick butt, and very smart. I did think that she should have given her mother some slack. I mean some girl was just killed in your town and you except your mom not to freak out when you disappear? I did love that her mom was in the story though as most parents in these stories are just not there.

This story was a great blend of the Wonderland we have grown to love and our world. The author did a great job with it fully.

In short, this book is for those who love the Alice in Wonderland story who wants something new to read! Its right up there with another retelling called Splintered by AG Howard.

Do I Recommend this book? YES! If you love Alice in Wonderland and want something new this is the book you should totally read!

Review: The Darkest Star

The Darkest Star The Darkest Star by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Review: This is the best yet! Reading this book you can see how far Armentrout has come as a writer as well as what she has done with this series. I was so excited to get a story centered around Luc! I can not wait for the next book and although this one does not end on a cliffhanger it did in such a way that it left me asking a bunch of questions. I can not say a lot becuase i'm not sure what would spoil it. But if you are a fan of the Luxe series then this one is going to knock your socks off. It was so funny and action packed.

Do I Recommend this book? ADDICTED!

This was one of the funniest books I have read in some time. If you don't mind religions be chatted about in a funny way then this is a book you should totally read!! I could not put this down and within reading the first 10 pages I knew I needed to own this book!

I laughed out loud during the entire thing and I just could not stop reading until I was done.

Review: Killer Among

Killer Among Killer Among by S.E. Green
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Man this only the 2nd book I was a beta for and I have to say that after rereading book one and two that this continuing story of Lane turning 18 and becoming an adult was one I was hoping for! There were a few things in it that seemed off to me. But that didn’t take enough away to make the book any less than 5 full stars. Everyone we have come to love was there as well as a few new characters that will blow you away.

I can not wait until the full ARC band then Finished copy comes out so I can see the changes the author made.

If you love Lane don’t miss this story and we’ll beware there’s one killer cliffhanger at the end!
